Sarkar The Movie
Saturday, July 30, 2005
Yeah... Its been a while now since I posted my last BLog post. Not much was going on to write about. Just saw Sarkar. Excellent movie. Inspired by GodFather, but in my opinion, its the best we got so far from Ram Gopal Verma. BigB rocks as always. SmallB has shown that he has what it takes to be son of a SuperStar. Abhishek and Hrithvik both came into movies almost same time. Kaho Na Pyar Hai was SuperHit, wereas Refugee was a flop. But now, HRK is nowhere near ABjr. Yuva, Run, DHOOM, B&B and now Sarkar.. he is growing day by day. Very soon he will be the next BigStar in Bollywood.

Coming back to Sarkar, the movie really shows the acting ability of each and every person in it. Very less speaking is used, mostly background music with face impressions were used. overall, its very intense movie. The pace is fast and gripping. No Songs, not even too much voilance, just pure intensity of acting! A Must Watch. My 10/10 point goes to this movie.

Supremo!!!
Friday, July 01, 2005
My facination with comics is a bit more than u could stand! And don't tell me I didn't warn u. Now I present a Comic Hero, which was another first of India. Yes, you guessed it right from the title of this post, SUPREMO! published by Star Comics, an unknown publishers now in India, but back than (in 80s), they were HOT! As Star Comics published India's first ever 3-D comics. The 3-D Comics crage died after a few issues, but that was real craze back then. I am still in possation of few issues of those 3-D comics with me. Some day, I will scan one of them, just to keep a piece of history.

Now, back to Supremo! Yes, it was a comics about a costumed hero, with a falcon who talks to him. And he is someone else when not in Supremo desguise. You can ask, whats new about it? This seems like any other costumed hero, but behold, the personality it is when not Supremo is the catch. It was a comics featuring our very own SuperStar, Amitabh Bachchan. Yes, Amitabh played himself in this comics, and while shotting for movies, he gets information about someone in danger by his falcon (I don't remember the name), and takes on desguige of Supremo to save the people. The story were written by our very own Gulzar.

Gulzar who once penned down the adventures of Supremo (an 80’s comic series inspired by Amitabh Bachchan’s action films) says, “I had a tough time putting together Supremo because I was to make him a combination of Phantom, Superman and Amitabh Bachchan. And with a market that was saturated with Phantom, Superman, Tarzan and Flash Gordon comics. A Supremo speaking Indian English didn’t stand much of a chance. But I am sure Cartoon Network characters will have a longer shelf-life.”

I am not sure how much issues were published, and sadly I don't have any issue with me. I love to buy any or all issues of Supremo. I am a die hard fan of Amitabh Bachchan. If anyone wants to sell it, or even rent it, I am ready. I can return the comics after scanning it. I would love to share the scans as well. Please, if anyone has any issue of Supremo, do let me know. Infact, I am so desperate, I can pay for the scans as well. You get the scans done by someone and I will pay for it. I am posting one of the ad for the comics here, as this is the only thing I have on this....

This is what I got on Net for Supremo!

Supremo

Real Name: Amitabh Bachchan

Identity/Class: Normal human

Occupation: Actor

Affiliations: Vijay, Anthony (sidekicks); unnamed falcon

Enemies: Unknown

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: India

First Appearance: Unknown

Powers/Abilities: Supremo has no super-powers. He has the combination of strength to defeat his human adversaries and intelligence to get out of traps laid for him.

History: Unknown

Comments: Apparently he looks very much like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan - one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian Cinema. Supremo was supposed to be the costumed alter ego of Indian film superstar Amitabh Bachchan. He has 2 boy sidekicks -Vijay and Anthony (they are again normal human beings and do not wear any special costume). Incidentally the names of the sidekicks are taken from famous screen roles of Mr. Bachchan. He has a falcon as a pet, who also acts as scout.

More info on Bahadur
Bahadur first appeared in 1978. Written by "Abeed Surti"and later on continued "Jagjit Uppal". It was illustrated by "Govind Brahmania"who usually also illustrated the Indrajal comics covers at that time. First published in 1978 and was named "Laal Inter Bari" (The red brick house) where bahadur (son of the notorius dacoit Vairab singh) made his first apperance.

Phantom comics were also published in the Illustrated Weekly, untill the publication discontinued. In bengali it was published daily in anandabazar Patrika (along with Mandrake on Sundays) and also in the then weekly "Desh" magazine.

Abid Surty also written a couple of non-bahadur indrajal-comics based on real stories. One was about "Sultana" the dacoit who was also called "india's robinhood".

Bahadur's father was one of the most dreaded dacoits of Chambal named Vairab Singh

Sukhia's son Deena was brutally killed by Shaitan Singh an accomplice of vairab singh, who persuaded bahadur a lot not to continue building his organisation. He and another dreaded dacoit Kabli-khan raided bahadur's organisation only to be defeated by bahadur in a hand to hand fight.
In bengali this was named as : "Bahadur o kabli-khan"

Lakhan separated from the groups of shaitan singh and joined bahadur. In the same episode bahadur met his future wife Bela( the princess of Pipli).
bengali name: "bhadur o sada bhut er adda"(bahadur and the den of white ghosts)

later after the sucessful establishment of his organisation Bhadur went to Mumbai for training in martial arts.He defeated the mumbai underworld mafias.
Bengali name: "bahadur o kung-fu raja ra",or Bahadur and the kung-fu kings"

there are also several interesting stories, bahadur and the headless ghost, in another story bahadur and bela found out the hidden treasure of his late father.

Also, the following I found on a site :

Real Name: Unknown

Identity/Class: Unknown

Occupation: Unknown

Affiliations: Citizen's Security Force, Sukhia (police officer), Lakhan, Mukhia (local village headman)

Enemies: Dacoits, drug runners, smugglers.

Known Relatives: Unnamed father (a dacoit, deceased), Bela (wife), Vishal (foster father)

Aliases: The Brave

Base of Operations: Unknown

First Appearance: Indrajal Comics

Powers/Abilities: Unknown

History: Bahadur was the son of a dacoit, but was raised by Vishal, a police chief. When he reached adulthood, Bahadur decided to fight crime, creating the Citizen's Security Force, complete with a similar force run by his fiance (later wife) Bela.

Comments: Bahadur was based on Indian cinema superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Published by Indrajal Comics, itself a subsidiary of the leading newspaper group, Times of India.

He wore blue trousers and an orange tie-up shirt.
